Will there be more funds in the future?

The current version of the CivicSpatial program is being run as a three-year pilot program to evaluate the benefits of using a funding program to improve data and provide value back to local governments for their contributions. Admittedly, the grant amounts are not large however it is hoped that by demonstrating the effectiveness of this pilot program that more funding will become available in the future. It is expected that the CivicSpatial program can be run as an on-going program that local governments can repeatedly apply to fund different spatial data projects in their area beyond the current three-year initiative.

We only want to apply for the $1,500 funding.

If a local government is not interested in participating in a jointly funded project (where funding is pooled by a group of local governments) you are still entitled to receive $1,500 CivicSpatial funding. You must, however, have a signed Data Sharing and Licensing Agreement (DSLA) and commit to a more frequent submission of your data (at least monthly).

As part of this program ICIS will assist you in automating the process of extract and upload of your data to minimize the effort required to meet the increased submission frequency.

To apply for this funding, answer the applicable questions on the online application form.

Why is the $10K pro-rated regionally?

The $10,000 regional grant is designed to encourage cooperation between regional local governments and leverage the limited amount of funding available. The funding is well suited to projects of common interest such as establishment of additional survey control in an area, determining accurate municipal boundaries or similar shared projects.

Is the $10K per year or one time?

The $10,000 regional allocation is per project - not $10,000 per year for the three year program.

It is hoped that the CivicSpatial program will prove successful and lead to further funds being made available in subsequent years. In this case, local governments will be able to apply for additional funds.
